i get to keep a bunch of it actually. kind of. it's technically property of the school, but my name goes on the pieces and i get to use them in my portfolio, as long as i don't publish them elsewhere.
a friend of mine who i was in a lot of classes with, graduated last year at the same time the previous designer quit, so he applied for the position and got it. he's really really good, and this is the first semester they had a budget to hire an intern/assistant designer, so he asked me if i wanted the position. i'd already had done several things chosen to be published for the school before, so that helped convince his boss to let him.
Oh cool! I was there, if you're in Kelly's/Nico's/Andrea's/Jim's hall. And, I think, Forrest's and Brittany's, though I don't believe I've ever officially met them either. Sorry to have missed ya.
That sounds like a pretty great position. How much of the stuff do you get to keep for your portfolio, if any? And how'd you get the job?
I interned over at University Relations for a semester. Although it was a somewhat...unfulfilling experience, it was still enjoyable. And it gave me print experience that I wouldn't have had otherwise, so.
thanks. yeah, i saw you at our hall last sunday. i think. at least i saw someone who looked like your selfportrait at our hall last sunday=)
i'll be graduating from ksu in the spring, but am currently the assistant designer for the college of the arts. me and my art director put together all the calendars, invites, postcards, magazine ads, posters, banners, brochures, etc for the art, music, and theater departments. we do literally over a hundred pieces a year. the website is a little out of date, so hopefully i'll get my more recent stuff up soon.
