What is this Artbook Coalition?
The Artbook Coalition is a place for collaborating artists to convene, share ideas and inspiration, and get involved in contributing to circulating Artbooks. Artbooks are sketchbooks passed on from one artist to another.
How do I get in line for an Artbook?
If you'd like to join the a lineup for one of the Artbooks, send me a personal message through this site with your name, address, and a sample of your work. (I'm not looking for professional artists, just an idea of your style.) If you'd like, you can also specify what book you'd like to be a part of.
What do I do once I receive the book?
1) Add your personal information to the ledger on the inside cover of the book. Generally, this will include your name (or moniker), the date you received the book, and your location.
2) Find the first blank pages and draw, paint, collage, sketch, and scribble!
3) As you add new art to the book, be sure to take photos of the pages and upload them here on the site where they'll be added to their respective Artbook albums!
4) When you're all done, let us know and we'll send you the address and name of the next artist on the list.
Can I upload other artwork to this site? (non-Artbook stuff)
Sorry, but no. There's a ton of awesome networks like this one that allow artists to post anything they've created, but the purpose of this site is to facilitate collaborations on traveling sketchbooks, so if you want to post other work, either upload it to your blog posts or provide a link to your work.
How long do I get to keep the book?
10 pages or 2 weeks, whichever comes first!
Are there any rules as to what I can put in an Artbook?
Yep, but just a few:
1) Keep it clean. There's plenty of things to draw without making it inaccessible to younger viewers. This also goes for personal pics you may post in your blog or as your user icon.
2) Respect the other artists' work! If you're using materials that may bleed to other pages, put a loose sheet between the pages to protect them. And never alter the art of another artist unless explicit permission has been given to do so!
What if I lose the book?
While the artists understand that their work is at the mercy of the subsequent contributors, it's important to remember the amount of time that goes into each page. After just a few artists, a book can quickly represent dozens of hours of work. So while we'll take into consideration your circumstances, chances are that you won't be getting another book. So please, please be careful.
Can't wait to see your art!
